Week Eight, Term Three 2024
From the Principal
Welcome to the Lumen Bulletin for Week Eight, Term Three. Since our last bulletin we have enjoyed a variety of events, including the Dance Showcase, Religious Education Week, Year 9 Emmaus Retreat, and our Fathers’ Day Breakfast.
It was wonderful to see so many people attend our Fathers’ Day Breakfast last week. This special celebration of the fathers and father figures in our lives continues to grow annually, with over 400 people attending this year. I hope that everyone who attended enjoyed themselves.
Yesterday, you would have received an email about the College’s upcoming 40th Anniversary Celebration. This special event will take place on Saturday, 26 October, and all current and past students, families and staff invited to come along and join in the celebrations. More information about the event can be found in this bulletin.
As the end of Term Three approaches, so too does our time with the graduating class of 2024. With only two weeks left of formal classes for our Year 12s, I encourage them to enjoy their final days at the College. Amongst the busyness of exam preparations, course work deadlines and the excitement of upcoming graduation events, these final weeks can fly by. I hope the Year 12s take the time to appreciate their last two weeks with their peers and teachers. We look forward to celebrating both the final day of classes for Year 12 on the last day of term, and graduation early next term.
Enjoy reading the rest of this bulletin.
God bless.

A Week of Literary Fun: English Week/CBCA Book Week at Lumen
This year’s English Week at Lumen was a whirlwind of creativity, excitement, and literary fun! From dress-up days to baking and book swaps, the week was packed with activities that brought the entire school community together. Here's a look back at the fantastic events that made this year’s English Week truly unforgettable.
Whole School Dress-Up Day: Characters Come to Life
The week kicked off with a bang as students and staff arrived at school dressed as their favourite book characters. From Harry Potter to the Human Library, the fashion parade was filled with a colourful array of costumes that showcased our community’s love for literature. It was a fantastic sight to see everyone embracing their favourite fictional worlds, and the creativity on display was truly inspiring.
A Busy Book Swap: Sharing Stories and Discoveries
The book swap event was a huge success! Students and teachers alike brought in books they had loved and were ready to pass on to new readers. The library was bustling with activity as people searched for hidden gems and swapped stories about their favourite reads. By the end of the day, almost every book had found a new home. It was heartening to see so many of us sharing our love of reading and discovering new books to dive into.
The Lost Library Escape Room: A Literary Adventure
The excitement continued with The Lost Library Escape Room throughout the entirety of the week, a thrilling challenge that tested our literary knowledge and problem-solving skills. Teams raced against the clock to solve puzzles and unlock the secrets of the lost library. The room was filled with laughter, concentration, and the occasional shout of triumph as each group made their way through the clues. It was a fantastic way to blend teamwork, fun, and learning, and it quickly became one of the highlights of the week.
Cake Designs: Books You Can Eat!
Another creative highlight of English Week was the bake sale featuring cakes designed as book covers. From classic children’s books to modern favourites, the cakes were both delicious and beautifully crafted. Students from Year 11 Foods classes put their artistic skills to the test, creating edible masterpieces that looked almost too good to eat. The bake sale was a hit, with all proceeds going to support Life Link. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped make this event such a sweet success, especially the Year 10 Business Bites students!
Write a Book in a Day: A Huge Creative Endeavour
The grand finale of English Week was the much-anticipated “Write a Book in a Day” event. Teams of students from all year groups came together to brainstorm, write, and illustrate and publish a book in just 12 hours. The energy in the rooms were electric as ideas flowed and stories took shape. By the end of the day, we had several incredible new books that showcased the creativity and talent within our school community. Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work and imagination, and for fundraising for the Children’s Cancer Council.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in English Week! From the staff to the students who took part in the events, your enthusiasm and creativity made this week truly special. We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we can’t wait to see what next year’s English Week will bring!

On Thursday, 22 August the Year 11 students had a special night at their annual River Cruise. It was an amazing night and chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the year.
Students boarded the Crystal Swan from Barrack Street Jetty in what was a night to remember, using this event as an opportunity to connect with their peers in their final years at the College. The students represented themselves and Lumen Christi College amazingly. They dressed to impress and danced the entire night.

Religious Education Week
In Week Seven, the College celebrated Religious Education Week, offering students a variety of activities throughout the school. Homerooms participated in a school-wide activity, where students wrote prayer intentions on ribbons, which were then displayed in the Jubilee Gardens. Religious Education classes made use of the Chapel, with our Chaplain, Jerome leading reflective activities.
On Thursday, volunteers from Catholic Youth Ministry, Notre Dame, 24:7 Youth Ministry, the 24:7 Armadale Youth Group, and Acts 2 COME visited the College, setting up activity stalls for students. Finally, Praise Club concluded the week on a high note with a praise session in the Jubilee Gardens, leaving everyone feeling incredibly joyful.

Year 12 ATAR Human Biology Zoo Excursion
On Monday, 2 September the Year 12 ATAR Human Biology students attended the Primates Past and Future presentation at the zoo. The presentation allowed students to consolidate their knowledge of primate trends and the links between current living primates, past Hominins and current humans. Students also had the opportunity to observe the living primates at the zoo, to deepen their learning about both the similarities and difference between apes and humans. Thank you to Mrs Howie who assisted with the excursion supervision.

The Youth Mission Team visited the College to lead the students in prayer and reflection. The students took part in some fun group activities, small group discussions and had time for some individual self-reflection with the purpose of deepening their spiritual wellbeing.
