At Lumen Christi College, pastoral care is about knowing each student as an individual and supporting them to grow with confidence, resilience and purpose.
We believe young people flourish when they feel safe, valued and connected. Through strong relationships and clear support structures, we provide a nurturing environment where every student belongs and is encouraged to thrive — academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Pastoral Support at Lumen Christi College
Every student is supported through a strong and clearly defined pastoral care structure.
The House system is central to student life, fostering connection, identity and belonging across the College. Each student is part of one of seven Houses — Campbell, Frassati, MacKillop, O’Connor, Salvado, Tangney or Yagan — and belongs to a homeroom that provides daily connection and care.
Each House is led by a House Coordinator, with Heads of Year overseeing the pastoral and academic wellbeing of each year group. Together, staff in these roles work closely with students, families and all staff to support engagement, wellbeing and personal development.
Students also have access to a dedicated Pastoral Care team, including College Counsellors, Psychologists and a First Nations Liaison Officer. This team is led by the Deputy Principal of Pastoral Care ensuring continuity of care and support throughout a your child’s journey at the College.
Our Guiding Lights
Our approach to pastoral care is shaped by our Guiding Lights, which reflect the values that underpin life at Lumen Christi College and guide how we learn, lead and care for one another:
- Light of Faith – To have an optimistic faith and to appreciate and be good stewards of the blessings of life.
- Light of Excellence – We are challenged to shine, to develop our gifts, to achieve our personal best and to share our talents for the benefit of others.
- Light of Welcome – We are challenged to welcome, to develop an inclusive Community and to be a safe place where all are known and belong.
- Light of Example – We are challenged to lead, to demonstrate respect, understanding and compassion for others and to make a difference.
- Light of Creativity – We are challenged to value ideas, to explore possibilities, to have an optimistic faith and to appreciate diversity.
Together, these values provide a shared language and framework that supports student wellbeing, positive relationships and a strong sense of purpose.
