Across Years 7–9

A solid foundation for learning

Students engage in a broad and balanced curriculum that builds strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking, while encouraging creativity, curiosity and problem-solving. All students study across the common curriculum learning areas of Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Health and Physical Education.

Alongside the common curriculum, students are introduced to a wide range of elective opportunities that allow them to explore interests, discover strengths and begin shaping their own learning pathways. This breadth of choice supports our belief that success looks different for every student. More information regarding the elective opportunities for students throughout middle school can be found below.

Year 7 Trasition Program

The transition into secondary school is a significant milestone. At Lumen Christi College, this process is carefully and intentionally supported through our Year 7 Transition Program.

Year 7 students are primarily based in our purpose-built Year-7 Block, whch provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment that helps students settle confidently into secondary schooling. The program combines the best elements of primary schooling — strong relationships, consistency and care — with the opportunities of secondary education, including specialist teachers, facilities and learning experiences.

During the early stages of Year 7, students are gradually introduced to secondary school routines, supported through team-building activities, study skills development, positive education, and digital learning. A strong focus on wellbeing, organisation and belonging ensures students feel confident and connected.

Teachers of Year 7 works collaboratively to support both academic progress and pastoral care, with a Head of Year providing a clear point of contact for students and families.

An Orientation Day occurs in Term 4 for Year 6 students along with an orientation to secondary school for parents. The day is carefully planned to support students transition into secondary schooling and life at Lumen Christi College.
