Week Four, Term One 2025
From the Principal
As we embark on another exciting week, I am delighted to share this bulletin which includes numerous highlights from the past fortnight.
Our College School Advisory Council (CSAC) and Parent Voice are invaluable groups within our community who each help to shape the future of our school. On Wednesday, we held our Annual Community Meeting where a look back on 2024 highlighted the Light of Excellence in many areas. Most notably, we have seen an upward trend in student results and positive gains in student well-being. Additionally, a significant rise in enrolment numbers was highlighted, validating our enhanced reputation as a school of choice in the area.
I would also like to extend the Light of Welcome to two new nominees who have joined the CSAC for 2025: Ms. Melina Hickson and Ms. Monica Henry. We look forward to working alongside you both and the contributions you will bring to the community.
As we head towards the midway point of the term, I would like to recognise the way our student body has embodied the Light of Welcome for our new Year 7s. Our students have started the year in such a positive way, setting enriching examples for our youngest students in developing respectful and supportive relationships, fostering a culture of kindness and cooperation.
As students settle into their academic studies for 2025, it’s equally important that they actively build resilience and a strong work ethic. To this end, consistent routines at school and at home are essential for student success. The Light of Excellence and College success is ultimately about each of our students striving to achieve their personal best.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the upcoming Interhouse Swimming Carnival, where many of our students will be stepping outside their comfort zones and striving for their personal best. This historic event marks the first time our new Houses, Frassati and O'Connor, will compete, and we look forward to witnessing their efforts and celebrating the achievements of all our students.
Thank you for your continued support and I hope each of you enjoy the long weekend ahead.
God bless.

Lumen Christi College to Pilot Australia-first AI Teaching Assistant ‘Nurture’
Lumen Christi College is one of ten West Australian Catholic schools taking part in an Australian-first pilot of an AI teaching assistant aimed at improving student outcomes by supporting teachers with research-led use of AI.
Catholic Education Western Australia has partnered with Nurture to trial an AI-powered Teaching Assistant which closes 'the feedback loop' between teachers and students enabling consistent, structured, and actionable feedback tied to learning outcomes.
Nurture is a research-driven technology, developed using a framework from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and with ongoing research collaborations with Stanford University.
The technology is embedded within Microsoft Teams, providing quick, simple and safe access for teachers. It is designed to work directly with a school’s curriculum and is aligned to CEWA’s obligations through the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, and its Vision for Learning.

Year 10 Dance and Drama Excursion – Jesus Christ Superstar
Last week our Year 10 Dance and Drama students had the pleasure of spending the afternoon at Crown Theatre watching Andrew Loyd Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
The students were wowed by the incredible music and dance talent of the cast, and the show inspired many meaningful discussions about the performing arts, on the bus journey back to school, and in our subsequent lessons.

National Young Leaders Day
On Wednesday, 19 February our College Captains attended the National Young Leaders Day at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, hearing from inspiring speakers like Brad Sheppard, Caitlin Basset, Luke Springer, and Kate Kirwin.
A key message from the day was the importance of following your passions and committing fully to your future, even when challenges arise. The speakers also highlighted persistence - showing up every day, working hard, and always striving to improve.
Caitlin Basset, former Australian Diamonds Captain, was a standout speaker. She shared valuable insights on teamwork, resilience, and focusing on becoming the best version of yourself rather than chasing perfection. Her confidence and public speaking skills left a lasting impression.
Luke Springer, a primary school teacher and internet personality, was another favourite. His energy and enthusiasm was contagious, and he spoke about leadership, choosing passion over money, and keeping a sense of childlike joy in everything you do.
Overall, it was an exciting and inspiring experience, leaving our College Captains with plenty of motivation for their own leadership journeys!
