Week Six, Term Four 2024
From the Principal
I am incredibly pleased and honoured to take on the role of Principal at Lumen Christi College. As I begin this journey, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to Mrs Karen Prendergast for her leadership, support and endorsement towards taking up this opportunity. As she embarks on her next chapter at Salvado College, our thoughts and prayers will be with her and we look forward to welcoming her back to Lumen Christi College in Semester Two, 2025.
Lumen Christi College is fortunate to be supported by a remarkable Executive Team whose expertise and commitment are pivotal to our success. Their collaborative spirit and dedication ensure that we provide a nurturing and dynamic environment for both students and staff.
I look forward to working closely with the entire Lumen Christi College community and to leading our college through a successful and enriching semester.
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of attending a luncheon with the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC. I was joined by 2025 College Captain Ann Padua and Vice Captain Brenden Escoto. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to connect with national leaders and showcase the talents of future college leaders.
This past Monday, the College acknowledged Remembrance Day with a Liturgy, allowing time to reflect on the courage and dedication of service members past and present. Our student cadets represented their service unit with dignity and honour, forming a Catafalque Party that paid respectful tribute to the fallen. Their commitment to this solemn duty is a reflection of their integrity and respect for the values we hold dear.
Today marks the conclusion of the WACE and Year 11 examination period. I would like to acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and resilience our students have shown throughout this intense time. Completing exams is a significant milestone, and each student should feel proud of their commitment and perseverance.
As they eagerly await their results, let us keep them in our thoughts and offer our support. This period of anticipation can bring mixed emotions, and we stand alongside our students, ready to celebrate their achievements and guide them as they continue their academic journey.
Today, Lumen Christi College welcomed 200 enthusiastic Year 6 students for their Orientation Day, marking an exciting step as they transition into secondary school. It was wonderful to see their eagerness as they explored our campus, participated in activities, and began to connect with their future classmates and teachers.
This seamless and successful day would not have been possible without the hard work, careful planning, and dedication of our staff. Thank you to everyone involved in making this Orientation Day memorable and welcoming for our newest students. We look forward to watching them grow and thrive as part of our Lumen community!
God Bless.

Project Podcast
Year 9 students have been getting creative in Science! Students collaborated to research, script, advertise, and record educational podcasts on ocean acidification. They produced innovative media which raised awareness of this pressing environmental issue. Through this project, they not only enhanced their scientific understanding but also developed valuable communication and teamwork skills, making learning both impactful and engaging. Well done to all involved!

Year 7 Civics and Citizenship Excursion
As a part of their Civics and Citizenship studies, Year 7 students recently had the opportunity to visit the State Parliament of Western Australia. Along with learning about the history of our State Parliament, students were able to witness democracy in action by visiting the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly and witnessed how laws are being passed or amended by our state’s members of parliament.
Students also had the opportunity to visit the nearby Constitutional Centre of Western Australia. This provides students with a fun and engaging way to learn about the history of Australia’s political systems at the local, state, and federal levels. Student also had the opportunity to take part in a simulated election which helped them to understand the way voting is conducted in our nation.
Students were engaged and enjoyed the opportunity to experience a real-world link to what they are currently studying in HASS.

VET Out and About
Our Year 11 students have now wound up for the year, but our students are still continuing with their VET courses, with many commencing their Certificate IV qualifications in preparation for 2025. We are starting to sign up more Authority Developed Workplace Learning for 2025 which is a great opportunity to gain experience in your field of choice and contributes towards a student’s WACE. This is a good option for students to secure employment and apprenticeships. External course offerings from TAFE and Private RTOs have been coming through this term, and it has been fabulous to see so many students gain places into courses of their choice.
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Year 11 students working towards their Certificate IV in Education Support and Community Services at FEC. It was inspiring to see their dedication and enthusiasm towards the courses.
