Term 4, Week 8 2023

Principal’s Address

Welcome to our Week 8 bulletin which I am writing from the 2024 SLT camp at Woodman Point. Today is the second day of the camp at which our leaders are preparing for their various roles next year. It has been a pleasure to work with these talented and committed young people over the past couple of days and I am confident that they will lead our student community with distinction next year.

This week we held our Annual College Awards Ceremony, recognising the outstanding performance of our Year 7 to 11 students across a number of areas of college life. It was a pleasure to celebrate the achievements of so many of our students who have worked hard to achieve their best throughout the year.

During Week 7 we were delighted to welcome our 2024 Year 7 students and their parents for their orientation. It was pleasing to see so many parents at the Parent Information Night and to witness the enthusiastic and respectful way in which the students engaged during their Orientation Day. We look forward to welcoming them into our college community when they join us in Year 7 next year.

After a lengthy campaign, the Year 9 HASS elections have finally concluded after 4 weeks of collaboration and campaign development. The students showed great enthusiasm throughout the campaign and developed a much greater understanding of the electoral system through their participation in this learning activity.

Next Monday, 84 of our Year 9 students, and 11 college staff, will head over to Canberra for a HASS tour of the nation’s capital. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to visit a range of venues across the city, including the war memorial and federal parliament.
As we enter the last week of the academic year, preparations for our Illumenating Christmas community event are in full force. This event takes place on the evening of December 6th. We look forward to seeing you there.

As the holidays approach, on behalf of all College staff I would like to wish you and your families the love, peace and happiness that the joy of Christmas brings. I hope that you enjoy spending this valuable time with family and friends.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer break with your children, and we look forward to welcoming them back in 2024.

God Bless

Year 7 Orientation

On 17 November, the school welcomed the new Year 7 cohort to an orientation day planned to give the students a glimpse of high school life. The day began with a warm welcome from the Leadership Team. The students, through various planned activities, were given the opportunity to connect to their peers in their dedicated house group. The students then rotated through PE, Science, Food Science and an amazing race around the school. The day was filled with fun activities that provided students with an insight into what 2024 Year 7 will be like. Students also developed strong connections with staff and student leaders who all look forward to guiding the Year 7 cohort next year. We cannot wait to help them make their first steps into high school.

TAFE Testers

In Weeks 5 - 7 the Year 9 students had the opportunity to take part in a range of TAFE Tester courses. Some students participated in a day of learning about building and construction on the Bricklaying Tester. Others took part in the Horticulture Tester at Murdoch University where they learnt about Australia’s vast array of plants and crops and students were able to take some succulents home for them to nurture. Lastly, some students opted to take part in the Automotive Tester at Kwinana TAFE where they spent the day revving engines, doing some experiments and working on cars. The days were a great opportunity for some hands-on learning experiences for the students and were enjoyed by all those who participated.

Year 9 HASS Elections

After 4 weeks of planning, and campaigning, we have a winner for the annual Year 9 HASS elections. Congratulations to The People’s Protectors Pros with running candidate, Charlie Dixon. The party’s platform was based on reducing bullying and promoting inclusion within the community. The PPP party have won themselves a pizza lunch.

The Year 9 HASS election activity immerses students in the real-world context of democracy through collaboration and acting on feedback from their peers to cross the line in preferential voting. Congratulations to all the Year 9 students for your enthusiasm and engagement in your learning. All are welcome to visit B Block to view the outstanding campaign posters produced by the students.
