Term 3, Week 1 2022

Welcome to Term 3! I hope that all of our students had an enjoyable term break, and have enjoyed their first week to start the new term. As Mrs Prendergast mentioned in last term’s News Wrap Up, I will be Acting Principal for the next few weeks as she enjoys some well-earned long service leave. Mrs Prendergast will return in Week 4 of this term.

Term 3 is always one of the busiest terms of the year, with a variety of events, incursions and excursions on the calendar. This includes the Interhouse Athletics Carnival in week 4, Lumen Day in week 5, the Year 11 River Cruise in week 6, English Week in week 6, Dance Showcase in week 7 and many more!

Importantly, Term 3 is also the final term of formal classes for our Year 12 Class of 2022. I wish all of our Year 12 students a wonderful final term.

Emmaus Retreats

This week our Year 10, 11 & 12 Emmaus Retreats took place. The Year 12s spent three days at one of three different sites. At either Fairbridge, Serpentine or Woodman Point, each group completed the same program that helped them to reflect on who they are in this world, what influences they have had to shape the person they are, and who they would like to become in the future.

The Year 11s completed a two-day program. One day was spent completing a pilgrimage through the streets of Perth, helping them to understand the history and development of the Church in Perth. The other day helped students to reflect on their place in the community and how they use their values and character strengths to contribute to society.

The Year 10s completed a program led by Youth Mission Team that focused on building positive relationships with others.

I would like to extend my appreciation to all the staff who facilitated and supervised the students on their retreat experiences, and especially to our Deputy Principal of Mission, Caroline Watson, for coordinating each of the programs.

Subject Selection for Year 11 2023

The Year 10 Parent Information Evening was held this week where parents received important details regarding senior secondary pathways and subject selection options for next year. A link to the presentation will be forwarded to Year 10 parents next week. All current Year 10 students will have a course counselling session next week, and selections need to be finalised by Monday, 8 August (week 4). Academic Assembly

Next week we will acknowledge our Semester 1 Academic Honours award winners at a whole school assembly on Wednesday, 27 July. Parents of award winners are invited to attend this assembly and will have received an email with further details earlier this week. We extend our congratulations to all award recipients on their commitment and academic achievement during the first half of this year.

Dance Showcase 2022 - Save the Date!

Our Dance students have commenced preparations for the upcoming annual Dance Showcase later this term. This year’s Dance Showcase, ‘A night at the Grammys’, will be performed over three shows; a Matinee and Evening Performance will be held on Thursday, 1 September 2022 and an Evening Performance on Friday, 2 September 2022. Further information including ticketing will be available later this term.

Covid Update

Earlier this week Catholic Education WA, the Department of Education and AISWA issued a joint statement regarding the emerging COVID-19 situation in Western Australia. The letter reiterates the importance of the current COVID-19 safe measures we can all take to ensure that our schools remain open, minimising the disruption to student learning. To read their joint statement please click here.

Parents are asked to speak with their child about the current situation with regards to the pandemic. Your assistance to ensure your child brings a mask to school and wears it during indoor classes is very much appreciated. The College will also keep you informed as we receive further details regarding the additional RATs that will be provided for families.
