ACC Inclusive Sports Carnivals

Diversity Education students and staff have had a busy Term 1, participating in three different ACC Inclusive Sports carnivals.

Visual Arts News

We've had a great start to the Term in Visual Arts, with various learning opportunities and celebrations, including the Arts Captains Morning Tea and a Year 12 Excursion.

Sport News

Term 1 commenced with the SASJ Sport competition for students in Years 7 to 10.

To round out a very busy term of sport, in Week 9 the Physical Education Department hosted the annual Interhouse Cross Country Carnival. New requirements from the ACC now mean that all students in Years 7 and 8 run a 3000m course, and all other age groups complete a 4000m course. For some of the girls in our Senior groups this is a big jump, however that didn’t deter strong numbers of entrants!

Students were asked to pre-nominate for the two races, meaning that the course was not as busy for each race, allowing a smoother flow for runners and a fast pace at the front! The 3000m race started with a blistering pace from Myles Brackin in Year 7 who did not let up for the entire course, convincingly taking out the race to the applause of the entire school cheering him down the straight. Summer Crake was the first Year 7 girl across the line, looking like she had barely broken a sweat as she cruised through the finish banner.

The 4000m race had students in Year 9 through to 12 all lined up at the start line waiting for Mr Oddie to pull the trigger, but nobody was going to beat Year 12 student Tyron Maloney across the finish line. In what has become an annual tradition of 'try catch Mr Ainsworth' on the lead bike, Tyron actually managed to pass me with 200m to go! Year 9 student Charli Almstrom was not far behind, winning her age and the girls race by what seemed like minutes! Both races went smoothly and many students exceeded their expectations.

After the scores were ratified, Yagan House came out clear victors, with a strong showing on the podium in all age groups.

A new addition to the carnival was the House Fun Run. Students started off in their House marquees, with the challenge to complete as many 400m laps of the oval as a House in 20 minutes. Every time a student crossed the line for their House, a point was scored. The Middle School event was taken out by Campbell House, who then backed it up with another win in the Senior School run! We look forward to building on this aspect of the carnival in the coming years, adding more colour, excitement and entertainment as we go.

Year 7 & 11 Mentor Program

This year, our Year 7 and Year 11 students are taking part in a Mentorship Program.

Over the 2020 Christmas break, the College Library was transformed into the Michael Devine Discovery Centre.

HASS News

HASS has been a hive of activity this term. Firstly, we welcomed three new staff members to the Lumen Christi community; Mr Maag, Miss Frankovic and Mr Christmas.

Students Win Principal's Cup Cricket

The annual Principal’s Cup Cricket match was held on Wednesday, 23 March, with a team of eager Year 12 students taking on the College Staff team in the first of four Principal's Cup matches to be played this year.

Congratulations to Year 8 Yagan House student, Sean Wirth, who won his recent final Pennants games for Gosnells Golf Club.

Black Cockatoo Nesting Hollows

The College has introduced a number of nesting hollows for Black Cockatoos in an effort to help these endangered and vulnerable species.

Miss Del Pup Qualifies for Nationals!

Health & Physical Education Assistant, Miss Rebecca Del Pup, will represent Western Australia in the upcoming National Athletics Championships in Sydney later this month.
