VET & INSTEP Many Lumen Christi students achieve academic success and move on to complete their education in a wide range of degree subjects at university. Others choose alternative routes to employment. Regardless of the route an individual chooses to follow, guidance will be needed along the way. Our well developed pastoral care system and proactive mentoring programme for Year 11 and 12 students enable this to happen. Each student is supported in making the best decisions about their future. A wide range of information and expertise regarding career choice is available within the College. Recognition of diverse needs amongst students has led to the highly successful development of the VET and INSTEP programmes at Lumen Christi. VET Programme VET is shorthand for Vocational Education and Training. Taking part in VET courses allows students to obtain TAFE certificates while also working to complete their Curriculum Council Units and secondary graduation requirements. Our courses are selected carefully and aim to help address skill shortages and create opportunities to gain meaningful employment within industry. VET also equips students with valuable points towards TAFE and University Applications. INSTEP Programme Lumen Christi is one of a growing number of Colleges offering INSTEP: the Innovative Skills Training and Education Programme. This allows highly motivated students vocational experience while completing their studies at school. Students accepted onto the INSTEP programme spend the equivalent of one day per week in the workplace for a minimum of fifteen weeks (120 hrs). From working alongside others students acquire the knowledge skills and understanding to meet assessment requirements. INSTEP placements are available in both Year 11 & 12.
