Student Leadership Team - SLT

The existence of our Student Leadership Team is evidence of the value the Principal and College staff place on their students. Through the SLT, the student body is able to take an active role in the overall running of the school. It is important that we make use of the privilege given by ensuring the SLT remains active and functions well as a channel for communication between staff and students.

SLT members are self nominated, rather than elected. In years groups the students are interviewed by the Principal, SLT support staff and Executive members. A number of the positions students hold within the SLT are elected positions, others; such as the Head and Deputy head Boy and Girl, are appointed by the Principal. Students wishing to be considered for these positions nominate, make an address to their year group and take part in an interview with the Principal, Head of the SLT and outgoing Head Boy and Girl.

Once accepted on t the SLT members serve for one year. The new Team takes over from the existing one at the end of term 3, prior to the departure of the Year 12 students. The announcement of the Head and Deputy Head Boy and Girl, and the College Ambassador, are made at the College Presentation Evening.

While SLT members take on specific roles and responsibilities within the College the interest and active support of the whole student body is necessary for the SLT to function effectively and fulfill their specific roles to:

• Provide for student expression and consultation
• Develop student responsibility, initiative and leadership
• Initiate and organise school-based academic and social activities
• Promote good relations between College staff and students
• Promote the general welfare of the school
• Raise funds to supply extra amenities for student use
