Leadership Opportunities Lumen Christi College has a mission to foster in its students social, physical, emotional and spiritual growth, alongside academic excellence. The extensive array of co-curricular activities available to the student body is a testament to the commitment given by College staff to ensure this happens. Individual students are encouraged to take part in competitions and tournaments linked to different areas of the curriculum or of personal interest. Cultural pursuits open to students include drama productions and festivals, instrumental music, choirs, various orchestras and bands. In the sporting arena students have the opportunity to compete at local, state, and sometimes national level in a range of sporting activities such as Football, Netball, Soccer, Squash, Swimming, Athletics and Cricket. The range of leadership opportunities available to Lumen students also demonstrates how seriously our community works to ensure the College mission remains central in all Lumen Christi pursuits and endeavours. Through taking on leadership, individuals grow in confidence; developing skills that benefit the College and prove valuable to the student throughout their life. Engaging students in leadership roles allows them to learn about themselves and give service to others. The process helps nurture generosity, developing a sense of pride and a spirit of gratitude amongst students. Ongoing involvement with the St Vincent de Paul group, taking part in fundraising projects to benefit those in need, and being elected to serve as a member of the Student Leadership Team, are all fruitful in enhancing leadership qualities. Student Leadership Team Building on our belief that the promotion of excellence encourages students to do ordinary things extraordinarily well the Student Leadership Team, (SLT) supports the notion that real leaders are ordinary people with extraordinary determinations. Students who become actively involved in the Team give and gain much from the experience. The SLT exists to allow for student expression in all aspects of College life and to offer students the opportunity to be of service to the school. Students elected to the SLT, working in cooperation with staff support members, find positive ways of enhancing leadership, initiative and responsibility among the total student body. By upholding the religious, social and educational ideals of the school, SLT members lead by example, supporting the Principal and College staff in their educational objectives. Established in 1997, the SLT has become an integral part of Lumen Christi College life and culture. The election of SLT members takes places annually. Nominations are invited from all year groups in each of the five houses. The senior students also seek appointment to a number of positions of responsibility within the Team. The whole student body and staff members are invited to take part in the voting process. The Team comprises of upto 40 members including an executive of up to six Officers. The SLT operates on the basis of mutual respect, justice and personal accountability. Throughout the year members help to promote the general welfare of the College and to help maintain good relations between College staff and students. They engage in a variety of practical tasks to support academic and social activities including those which generate additional funds for the College and the wider community. Team members lead by example and actively encourage the whole student body to recognise:
