Beyond Year 8 students can choose either subject as an elective in Years 9 & 10. Students who attain Level 4 in Year 10 also have the option to study Japanese or Italian in Year 11 & 12. In Italian and Japanese lessons students develop oral and written skills which enable them to communicate in the language through listening, responding, speaking and writing. During the courses students study the basics of language construction and grammar in the chosen language. They also view, read and comment on a range of selected texts so developing the ability to use the language to express themselves in a meaningful way. Through the courses students gain an understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which elements of the language are used. The College has a long-standing relationship with a sister school in Japan and each year hosts a group of Japanese visitors from here. In 2010 Japanese students enjoyed visiting Tokyo and a number of other Japanese cities. A group of students are eagerly looking forward to their trip to Italy during the 2012 Easter Holidays. |
