Careers Education

Career development is the lifelong process of self managing each individual’s learning and work. It is about taking charge of our own in the overall career development programme at Lumen Christi. The programme provides opportunities for all students in Years 8 – 10 to acquire career skills and awareness via pathway planning, which includes TAFE certification.

Using an holistic approach, the Career Education programme is skillfully embedded within the core curriculum and incorporated into a range of subject areas. Integration of the Australian Blueprint for Career Development (ABCD) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) course to our career education programs enables Year 8 and Year 9 students to qualify for Certificate I in both Work Preparations and Introductory to Vocational Education.

In Year 10, students use the JIIG-CAL Career Voyage software to assist them in making good career decisions. They are also given the opportunity to develop an employment portfolio.

In Year 11 and 12, students have the option to select the Course of Study (COS) for Career and Enterprise or undertake other vocational courses to further enhance their planned pathway. The COS for Career and Enterprise enables students to develop the skills and understanding needed to successfully enter the world of work via Apprenticeships, TAFE, and University or directly from school. It also equips students with valuable career management skills by giving students the opportunity to develop and implement plans for their own future career pathways.

The course is divided into four units:
Unit 1A & 1B for Year 11 students and Unit 1C & 1D for Year 12 students. Successful completion of Career and Enterprise Unit 1A & 1B in Year 11 and Unit 1C & 1D in Year 12 may also give the students the opportunity to complete competencies working towards a Nationally Accredited Vocational Education and Training Certificate II in Tourism whilst completing secondary graduation.
