Management of the College

College Board

Lumen Christi College is administered by a College Board. Members of the Board work closely with the Principal, sharing responsibility for the financial management of the College including policy matters with financial implications. The Board is accountable to the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia, as well as to all who form part of the Lumen Community.

Annually parents and community members have the opportunity to nominate themselves or others for election to the College Board. Elections usually take place in Term 4 of the academic year. Representatives from each of the 5 local parishes; St Francis Xavier, Good Shepherd, Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Holy Family and Sacred Heart, form part of the membership.

The general objectives of the College Board are to help the College fulfil its educational responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution, and the policies and practices prescribed and recommended by the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia. The Officers of the Board; Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson Treasurer, and Secretary all have a particular role to play in this task.

The College Board carry out the following functions in pursuit of its objectives:

  • planning for the present and future operation of the school;
  • engaging or discharging on behalf of the Bishop of the Diocese, on the recommendation of the Principal, and in accordance with guidelines issued from time to time by the CECWA, the lay teaching, auxiliary and maintenance staff required for the operation of the school;
  • providing representation on the Committee which recommends the appointment of a Principal;
  • disseminating information about the school and about Catholic Education to persons and organisations in the school community;
  • liaising in all matters relating to the financial management of the school with persons and organisations in the local Catholic community;
  • managing all the finances associated with the school;
  • advising the Principal with respect to school policy that has financial implications

Parents Forum

The Parent Forum is an additional representative body through which parents can offer their time and talents to assist the College in fulfilling its responsibilities. In particular the Forum plays an important role in helping monitor the policies and practices used in the College and assisting with fund raising initiatives.
The four objectives of the Parent Forum are:

  • Consultative - providing a forum for parents to communicate with the school;
  • Educational - providing adult education for parents;
  • Social - encouraging community participation in College activities;
  • Fundraising - to provide resources for the College from the Parent Forum levy.

Meetings are held in the College each term. In between sub-groups undertake tasks and meet as required. The Forum usually organises an educational talk each year. This allows parents to develop their understanding of a particular aspect of education or explore theories on other school related matters. The focus chosen for last year was the 'Educational needs of Boys.' The Forum also work with College staff to organize the Second-Hand Book Sale, held at the end of the school year. All parents are welcome to attend the monthly meetings.
