Our College Campus

Lumen Christi is situated at the foothills of the Darling Ranges in Gosnells, WA. It is in a very picturesque rural setting bound by Tonkin Highway and Mills Road West, with an entrance off Station Street. The facilities are spaced out over approximately 20 hectares of land which allows ample space for many sporting and recreational activities on site.

Facilities

Having grown steadily over the years Lumen Christi College has extended and updated facilities along the way to keep pace with changing needs and educational trends.

Completion of the long awaited Performing Arts Centre early in 2007 provided many new opportunities, for our school and the wider community. It has also helped to raise the profile and standards of the Arts within our College. Smaller scale building projects to further enhanced our campus in the lead up to the 25th year of providing a valued education service to young people and the local Catholic Community. Much planning and research also took place to determine how best the College buildings might be adapted and extended to accommodate the arrival of the first Year 7 intake in 2010.

This resulted in the creation of dedicated transition centres for students beginning and completing their high school education. The Senior Transition Centre, a completely new building, became operational at the start of the 2012. In addition to a fantastic learning environment the centre provides access to careers guidance, VET opportunities and facilities which support the College’s Special Needs Program. Alongside this building programme extensive refurbishment to the creative and manual arts areas has provided the College with state of the art facilities in keeping with those of a special trade centre. The upgrade and enhancement of the Junior Transition Centre will continue in the year ahead.

The College is also blessed with extensive outdoor facilities including grassed and hard court areas marked for a variety of sporting activities. Lumen Christi also has one of the largest undercover Sports Centers in the southern hemisphere. The lake in the college grounds is also used for a number of water sports activities in the summer months.

College Map

The circular layout of the College reflects our desire to provide a supportive learning environment where all can learn and grow.
Core learning facilities, also doubling as House bases, encircle the library and Jubilee gardens, both of which are important focal point for students and staff. The administration Centre, chapel, canteen and uniform shop are also located between the learning areas, all helping provide a sense of security and feeling of community which is a hallmark of our College.

Canteen

Our self-service Canteen offers a range of hot and cold food items in keeping with the "Traffic Light" menu requirements to provide students and staff with a balanced diet within the menu choice. During the winter, hot foods are prepared from early morning and are available for students prior to the start of their school day. To secure the meal of their choice students are encouraged to use the pre ordering system.

The Canteen operates under the direction of Karen Housten. The small team of staff who provide our canteen service rely on the voluntary support of parents and others who give freely of their time to feed the College Community. Volunteering at the Canteen offers a great opportunity for parents to give practical support to the College. It also allows them to engage with a huge number of students and staff in light-hearted and friendly way and to develop new friendships with Canteen staff and other parent volunteers.

For further information about becoming a volunteer, please contact the Canteen Manager on 9394 9338. Everyone is most welcome.

Grounds

The beautiful grounds at Lumen Christi provide a friendly welcome and a positive learning environment. The grounds are made up of extensive lawns, passive areas, rose gardens and flower beds along with a number of wooded areas. The College grounds cover an area of approximately seven hectares, housing sports fields, with pitches for soccer, hockey and Australian rules. The pitches also double up as grounds for our many athletic activities and of course cricket pitches. The College also has a number of outdoor courts for tennis, basketball and netball, plus a king size sports centre where many College and community activities take place.

Water used to reticulate the lawns, playing fields and flower beds is drawn from a man made lake within the College grounds which holds approximately 31 billion litres (16,000,000 gallons) of water. The lake is also used for boating and canoeing activities.

The team of Grounds and Maintenance staff are responsible for the upkeep of the grounds and buildings as well as the maintenance and servicing of all equipment owned and operated by the College. The Grounds and Maintenance and cleaning staff teams are managed by Ian Robinson, who is also one of the Health and Safety Officers in the College.
